native iPhone app
« on: October 17, 2009, 03:14:14 PM »
Good news, Apple have finally accepted my native iPhone application called HomeWatch.  It's a cross-over project linking web cams with some of the goodness that is the ioBridge module.  So you can have some secured axis ip web cams onscreen with temperature readings and x10 switches.  The idea of the product is to simplify the monitoring of property when you are away from home, but it could work just as well for monitoring your fish tanks :)

I'm afraid it's a paid app, I need to cover the many months work this has taken.  I'm planing to continue development on the application, adding support for more cameras, and integrating more technologies for remote monitoring applications.

It's v1 right now, so tips, ideas and feature requests for the next version are more than welcome.

ok... i saw your app:

i like the idea.

id fix:
-$11.99 is a bit steep, especially considering it only lets you add temp gauges and x10 control.
-the ui interface good use some work... make it look like an apple made app, more professional. at the very least, change the purple background to white, so the buttons dont look weird.

id add the ability to:
-theme the app.
- allow any iobridge widget or display. you could do this by asking for a widget variable, and then adding it into the  javascript.

That's great! I'm glad that ioBridge has finally landed in the app store with your help.  Can you post some screen shots?  I'm not an iPhone user so I have no idea what it even looks like.

Thank you everyone for the positive feedback and sales :)  Don't worry, I'm already working on the next version with some more features (upgrades are free).  I just didn't want to spend too much time on v1 in case Apple rejected the idea.  The whole process can be a bit painful and slow.

So if you have ideas, feedback or requests, feel free to join the support discussion group.  http://sunshineapps.com/homewatch

Currently I'm busy adding Y-Cam Black support which seems to be another popular IP camera due to the night mode.

I just wanted to let you all know that the next version of my application is almost ready for submission to the painfully slow apple approval process... so hang in there :)

I'd like to add support for a few more cameras before the release, so if anyone has any special wishes please let me know!

I have a build ready for upload, but I wanted to add some more features.  However I'm a bit short on time right now, so maybe I'll just get this one out the door as an interim release :)

Uploaded!  So it's normally 2-3 weeks for the approval process, hopefully a bit faster for an update.

I'd like to add some servo support next, does anyone know if these can be controlled via the javascript API?  Ideally I need something that I can pass an analogue slider value in the range of 0-100 and the widget scales that to match the defined servo limits...

The same questions goes for X10 bright/dim control.

What else would people like adding? more cameras? better UI? some other widget types?

i would say that UI should be a goal for the next version.

Personally, I'd be more willing to purchase with full functionality. Controlling servos and adding more x10 features would be great! Adding graphics and prettying up the interface could come in the future.

Better UI organization could also be added.

So the update should now be available!

Added:
*Support for Y-Cam Black
*Change background color (click background then slect edit)
*Full screen video mode (rotate small video)
*3 day temperature history graph (rotate selected temp widget)
*Humidity Widget

I have another interesting feature that I hope to release soon, so stay tuned.

Apologies for the UI, once I get on top of the functional side, I'll look at cleaning it up!  But at least the purple background can now be changed :)
