Scheduled x10 Events
« on: December 21, 2008, 04:02:06 PM »
In the future will it be possible to schedule an x10 event such as turning on a lamp at a certain time and having it turn off again?

I would be interested in an event that could turn my aquarium light on at a certain time and then off again before I go to sleep.

Thanks!

It's in the works.  Hopefully within a few weeks, we'll have that feature available for you.

The back end and module functionality already exists, it's a matter of linking the web interface to it. We have about a dozen new features that are in that state. We will be springing them on you over time! Thanks for the request.

Would a $10 appliance timer from your local grocery store work? I had my main tank light as part of my demo, but in real life, I use an appliance timer to control the light.

Yeah I have one of those timers, I just was wondering if the ioBridge module could do it so I could schedule other x10 events as well. But yes those timers work great for my aquarium light until I can play with the x10 events.

Regardless of weather a store-bought timer could do one particular simple task, being able to do it through iobridge opens up a whole world of possibilities in terms of things like saving energy on larger appliances and being able to override the timer from afar if one knows plans are changing.   I dont have a second home, of course, but how awesome would it be to be able to monitor remotely and get it ready for one's arrival by starting water heater, AC, etc.

@SouthForkWeb

If you've got cron I can show you how to setup a script to call the appropriate widget...

This is a feature I've been really looking forward to but I am assuming it hasn't made it to the top of the to-do list yet.

Are general triggers in the works? Maybe triggers is the wrong word, let me explain.

I would like to use my ioBridge as a thermostat.
I would need to to trigger a relay based on the temperature and current time.
(from 5pm - 11pm on at 70F, off at 73F)
(from 8am - 5pm on at 50F, off at 55F)

The advantage of the ioBridge over a home depot thermostat is the ability to override the thermostat from anywhere. When I'm on my way home I reset the thermostat's temp.

Any suggestions? I can see the same capabilities useful for a hot tub. (if you are able to 'prep' the tub for when you get home you could keep the tub at a cooler temp and save $$$.)

It is actually next on the list. We have started the scheduling of actions and hope to roll a few tests in the next couple of weeks. It will be a cool feature for sure!

Great, glad to hear it hasn't been forgotten.  I'm a bit concerned with using this for X10 stuff without having the two way up and running (I'm getting close)  but in my case then I'd need to schedule serial message conversations... maybe a bit too tricky :)

We got so caught up in the latest firmware upgrade that everything else got pushed to the back burner.

Now that the IO-204 has the ability to run user created logic on-board, we may change direction with feature.  Instead of creating time based events running from the server, we're trying to decide if they should be part of the on-board rules.  It might make more sense to run them from the IO-204 itself, then at least they would fire whether on not it was online.
