General Email / Action questions
« on: December 07, 2009, 10:46:24 PM »
Greetings, I have a couple of questions.  #1) Is there a way to mark an email message as high priority?  In setting the system up, one of the emails (the first one) to my cell phone was marked as high priority and none of the others were marked high priority.  #2) This may be a question for the wish list section, but is there a way to send an email (from cell phone) in order to request the status of a particular input?  Thanks, Scott

as far as i know, through only the iobridge servers, both are no.

both should be accomplishable if you can code stuff on your own server.

I'm curious as to what you will do different with an email that you receive that is marked "high priority?" Is that more than just a flag?

I would think that any email you send with your system will have some text content that you will use to "filter" or classify or categorize in your email browser.

If an email that is marked as High Priority is sent, it normally shows up with a red exclamation point in Outlook, as well as a nice big fat red exclamation point on the screen of my particular cell phone.  This priority level flag is set by the originator.  If my sump pump, for example, quits, I would love to be greeted with this big red exclamation point! An option to send it normal or high priority would be super.  I would still like to figure out why / how my first message was sent high priority.

I realize that my second question is a bit more complex in nature.  It may be a nice feature down the road.

The short time (1 day) that I have had this unit, I am quite impressed.  Thanks!

Have a great one.

technologically, the high importance flag is a header set in the email. you will not normally see the header info (it requires you to change settings normally, and would look something like x-importance.) email programs will respond to this header.

Im sure other email programs this is true, at least for apple mail, you can have the program watch for keywords, and using rules can have that do other things. for example, on my mac, any robotics related items are colored red.
