iobridge stuck on 2
« on: January 02, 2010, 10:13:35 AM »
This morning I found that my dsl gateway router had stopped working, took two reboots to get it going. After I got the router back up and running I found the iobridge to by froze up, it had the #2 stuck on the display and the red led lit solid, a power cycle fixed it. This is first time since I installed it in July that the iobridge has froze up. The iobridge and the router are on two separate ups's so I don't think it was a power issue. Any ideas?

It may have gotten tripped up during a DNS transaction when the network was in weird state.  With so many ways the network can fail, it's hard to make a piece of equipment absolutely bullet-proof.  But now that I know it's possible for the module to hang on a 2, we can try to add so code to allow it to recover.

Been having trouble with my isp dropping out today and having to restart the dsl router many times. It seem that when the router is rebooted it hangs the iobridge on the number 2. Done it several times today. Would setting a fixxed ip help for this?

A static IP address isn't going to help much for this situation.  If it's stuck on a 2 then it already has an IP address.  Your ISP's DNS server may be the problem.  If that is the case, manually setting the DNS server IP addresses in your router may help.

You can search around the internet to find your closest public DNS server or use the DNS service that Google offer.  The IP addresses for Google DNS are 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4

Hey Jason,

I'm seeing this also.  I'll set static IPs, but I'm guessing something could be made more robust.

I have my iobridge connected by ethernet to a switch which is connected by ethernet to a small box (nslu2) running dnsmasq, which provides dns and dhcp (which points back to the dnsmasq box).

The iobridge loses track of dns.  Nothing else in my house (wired and wireless) has a problem.  I can start monitoring it to verify, but I'll be really surprised if dns is disappearing in some fashion.

What, exactly, are the conditions under which "2" shows up?

The IO-204 shows a "2" after DHCP is successfully bound.  It will show a "3" after it resolves the domain name to a IP address.  So, if it never gets to 3, then its a DNS issue.

I have run an IOBridge module for some time at home and at my office and it has been completely reliable.
I now have a similar problem with C4.4. Everything has been working fine and the Module was Online and could be controlled.

I then ran a test to see how it recovered after a power failure (as I'm about to install it to control my central heating) and now it will never go online.
I can ping it OK but that is about all.

If I disconnect and then reconnect the CAT5 cable the the display shows 1 for a few seconds and then 2 and stays this way.

If I pull the 5v supply and reconnect after a few seconds the the sequence I see is 1 followed by display flickering very fast between E and 6 then it goes back to 1 after a while and straight back to E/6. In this case the router DHCP table never displays the IOBridge module.

In both cases the LED on the pcb stays red.
Any ideas? I'm completely stuck at the moment.

I managed to get out of this by setting to factory defaults, however I can reproduced it with ease.

If I set a Standard rule as follows
When following conditions are true >> Module is Offline
Execute the folowing actions >> Set Ch1 Digital Output to On

I then Sync Rules.

Pull the CAT5 cable at my switch, then reconnect it, the IOBridge never recovers. And the display is either 2 or flickering E/6 on power-up or reconnecting CAT5.

Am I doing something wrong with Onboard rules? As I want to use this to control heating in a remote holiday home I want it to go into a known state in the event that the Internet connection is lost.

Thanks for writing about that scenario. We will simulate it and see what happens. What you are asking the module to do is fine.
