IO-204 Cat 5 I/O Channel Extension Cable
« on: May 16, 2010, 04:49:35 PM »
As an idea for a new product, what about a pair of adapters that would plug into an IO204 and a module and allow a UTP/RJ45 cat5 cable to be used as an extension?  that would allow the project to be upwards of 100m away from the IO204 using inexpensive cables??

Just a thought, Regards All.  Greg

It is a great idea. We are releasing a new line of wired sensors and incorporated the idea RJ-45 on the module side and the sensor side. We have been thinking of it for awhile, and recently testing and prototyping the idea. I will post when they are ready.

Great minds think alike  :)

wow that's great news! I think this concept will make the board more accessible, and user friendly, especially if the smart boards have a short cable distance between themselves and the module.

My only concern is how will you protect against users accidentally connecting the i/o cat5 into routers.  ie possible damage to network?

PS if your are doing a redesign, how about adding a bonus on-board temp sensor on the module itself.
