Can actions talk to other modules on the same account?
« on: August 31, 2010, 08:22:14 PM »
Hello,

I have more than one IOBridge module in my house (all on the same account). I would like to know if it is possible to have a digital input change on one module send an action to another module's digital output? Preferably without having to buy serial smart boards.

Switch w/ pullup < Module A CH 1 digital input

Module B digital output > change state

Thanks,
Scott

You could tie the digital out on one module to a digital in on the other...

Yes! They are called actions.

You can do actions from one channel to another channel on the same module or one channel on one module to another channel of a different module. The neat thing - the other module can be anywhere in the world!

Hey Nick,

Thanks for the response. The problem with that is running the wire. The reason I have more than one module in my house is because it is on a slab and it is easier to buy another module than run long cables from one side of my house to the other.

IOBridge,

HOW?

I have a digital input on Module A that I want to toggle a digital output on module "B". When I create an action in module A it only lets me toggle an output on module "A".  Please explain how to create an action, without 2 serial boards, that can talk to another module.

Are both modules linked to your account?

Yes. As stated in my original question, and the title of the post. "I have more than one IOBridge module in my house (all on the same account)."

The server-side actions are what you are looking for.

Click the Actions Tab, then Create Action.

One of the options is "Digital Input to Output Control" - select that and follow the wizard. If the modules are linked to your account, the drop down list should have them listed.

My question was to make sure you didn't have multiple accounts. 4 modules with 4 sign in's.

Thanks for clearing that up. Since all my modules got added to the "actions" section I completely forgot about server side actions and never clicked on the normal "Create Action" button. I kept going through the on board rules and got frustrated when it wasn't listing my other modules. I feel dumb know for not figuring it out on my own but maybe someone else will have the same brain fart and find this thread.

Thanks again,
Scott
