Outlet Control with PowerSwitchTail
« on: September 08, 2010, 09:58:59 PM »
Here's a quick project / how-to for the PowerSwitchTail. The PST is used to control outlets with logic level voltages (5v DC) from a digital output pin. The draw back to the PST is that the current required to fire the relay is 40ma. The project write up shows how to build an adapter circuit using a 10k ohm resistor and a transistor (PN2222) to allow the IO-204 to control the PST. If you get the PST from Adafruit, you will get the extra components to make it work.

We recently created a PowerSwitchTail Kit that includes the necessary circuit to connect it to the ioBridge modules.

We also throw in some hookup wire. It's perfect for controlling a single outlet safely.
